It ensures the factory is fully prepared to meet product quality standards. Here’s what a standard PPI includes:

Verifying Factory Readiness Before Mass Manufacturing Begins

General Information

- Factory name and location
- Product type and PO number
- Inspection date and inspector name
- Client requirements reviewed

Raw Materials Check

- Wood type (species, grade, moisture content) matches
- Wood is properly dried (MC meter test: typically 8–12%)
- Veneers, MDF, plywood, or panels are of acceptable quality
- Hardware (hinges, screws, handles) received and inspected
- Finish materials (stain, lacquer, paint) available and approved
- Packaging materials (cartons, foam, corner protectors) available

Material Storage Conditions

- Wood stored in a dry, ventilated area
- No signs of mold, insect damage, or warping
- Proper racking or pallet storage to prevent contact with ground

Tooling & Equipment Readiness

- Machines (saws, planers, sanders) are functioning and calibrated
- Jigs and fixtures are prepared for the production line
- Safety gear and maintenance logs available

Production Planning

- Production schedule available and realistic
- Work instructions and technical drawings available and understood
- Staff trained on quality requirements

Initial Samples / First Article

- First sample produced and inspected
- Sample matches design specs and finish requirement
- Corrections noted and applied before full run

Quality Control Procedures

- Internal QC team is in place
- In-process QC checkpoints established
- Defect criteria defined and communicated
- Non-conforming product procedure in place

Environmental & Safety Compliance

- Fire safety and emergency exits in place
- Dust extraction or ventilation system working
- Employees using PPE (personal protective equipment)

Documentation Review

- Technical drawings and BOM reviewed
- Quality standards and tolerances documented
- Material certificates (e.g., FSC) verified (if applicable)

Reporting

- Photos of raw materials, tools, and initial samples
- Summary of issues found
- Approval or recommendation for corrective action
